The Basics Of Natural Hair Dyes

So many people are looking for natural ways to dye their hair.

It makes sense. Chemical dyes are so smelly, bad for sensitive skin and actually harmful to the hair. They actually partially unwrap the strands of hair in order to help them absorb the dye better. While this does help create a more uniform dye job, it can take the hair weeks to recover.

Some of the natural hair coloring ideas don’t really rely on dyes. For example, extracts from the chamomile plant can help lighten blonde hair, creating a fresh, summery look. Brunettes have found that black walnut extracts can help deepen their hair color. Both of these colors often come in conditioners and shampoos to help the hair maintain its color over time.

Henna hair dyes are also making a major comeback. These dyes have been used in the Middle East for many years and are a very healthful way to dye the hair. Unlike chemical dyes, henna dyes actually coat the cuticles of the hair strands, sealing them and helping to protect the hair as they dye.

This sealing actually has the added benefit of helping to protect the hair from moisture and chemicals that can harm the hair.

If you are thinking of trying henna hair dye, be very careful not to get any of it on your skin. Henna is well known as a popular substance for temporary tattoos, and it can stain the skin easily. Most recommend using a barrier cream around the hairline when dyeing with henna to prevent any accidental miscolorations.

The protective feature of henna dye will last for at least 8 weeks, and possibly longer. Washing the hair causes henna coloration to fade over time, but the sealing of the strands of hair is permanent, and will last until the hair grows out, making it nearly impossible to dye the hair with another chemical dye during this time period.

And don’t forget to accessorize when you are done! Feather hair extensions can be a fun thing to add in to the natural look of henna dye.
